Who We Are
Visual Design Studios is an identity for the programming work of Robert Vesse. I am a 23 year old Graduate in Computer Science with a 1st Class Honours degree from The University of Nottingham. I have been creating software for close to a decade now and have 8 years experience in developing websites during which time I have created a variety of Content Management Systems.
Most recently I was employed in a large Secondary School in Nottingham as an IT Technician for the where I helped develop and maintain the schools IT Infrastructure and also developed and deployed the Print Select tool to help users manage their printers.
Currently I am conducting my PhD Research in the IAM Group (School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) at Southampton) at the University of Southampton researching in the areas of Link Integrity and its application to the Semantic Web. One of the main by-products of my research is a C# API called dotNetRDF which is an open source .Net API for working with RDF.
I am a Member of the BCS (MBCS) and the ACM (Student Member)
Our Products
Our main product at the moment is our Visual Log (VLog 2) Web Content Management system which powers this website and we are working towards making it as user friendly as possible. The software is freely available under the GNU GPL and users have the option of Registering if they wish to do so to help us monitor adoption of the software.
Our Current Projects
Currently we are continuing to advance the Vlog 2 project and have just released a new Beta of the software as per the Visual Log Roadmap
We are also developing an Open Source Library called dotNetRDF which is an C#.Net Library for working with RDF.
Also we have released the completed section of a thoroughly tested new product - Print Select - which is part of our new Printer Management Suite although further work on the other section of this project is currently suspended.
Our Past Projects
Our main past project has been a major Website CMS system for Heanor Gate Science College which we continue to provide occasional maintenance and upgrades for. That site has been running successfully for almost 4 years now.
Another project on a much smaller scale was the Insight Official website (no longer available online) for a local band which included a customised Snitz Forums implementation and for a couple of years had a thriving forum community. This was a much simpler HTML file based CMS. This site has now fallen into disuse due to the band splitting up.
We've also engaged in numerous other minor projects for personal interest most of which have not resulted in publicly released software or have led to software being released for a limited time only and later withdrawn from distribution. |
