Developer Commitment

Visual Log (VLog 2) will continue to be developed as a freeware product on a permanent basis for the forseeable future and has been had its licensing conditions modified so that it is entirely free to use under the GNU GPL. We are comitted to making it as Open Source as possible, whenever you download a Release Version you are getting Full Source and you can now always get the latest in-development source from the Visual Log Subversion Repository

In terms of development the plan looks like this for the next 6 months or so:

Future Versions

Version 2.1.0 Beta 1

The next version of Visual Log will be the first new Minor Version of Visual Log 2x, this means it will include significant new features and rewrites of some aspects of the software. We're currently gradually rolling out the software update to some of our sites to test it before we deploy it on the main site here in a couple of weeks time. We'll be aiming for a public release at the end of January.

New features will include:

  • Completely new JavaScript Core Libraries to provide full AJAX support and better integrated Scripting of Visual Log
  • Improved Blogging
    • Inline Comments and Subscriptions powered by AJAX
    • Link Integrity integrated with the Blog Editor
    • Better Blog Entry Preview
    • More informative Subscriber alerts
    • More management of Comments now possible
    • Version History for Blog Entries
  • Editor Rewrite
    • Completely rewritten JavaScript support for Editor to make the Editing experience far better
    • Better integration of Link Integrity Checker and Correction with continued Editing
  • More Tagging Features
    • Ability to click on Tags and see a summary of all Content with that Tag
  • Improved User Accounts
    • Ability to disable User Accounts
    • Option to have the Quick Actions bar displayed on all pages
  • New Version History System
    • Generic System which provides History for both CMS Content and Blog Entries
  • Completely rewritten Link Integrity Checker
    • Now able to validate links to External Websites
    • Validates Image Sources as well as Links
  • Some minor tweaks to CMS Features to provide more effective management and presentation
  • Real time live Layout Editing with instant page update via AJAX
  • Usual Bug Fixes and Efficiency Improvements
  • Some improvements to how aspects of the GUI and Site perform

Optional Components

We've recently added another Colour Scheme (Download Black Light Colour Scheme) and QuickTime Video formatting codes (Download QuickTime Renders Pack).

We've also released the Tag Generator Component which helps aid upgrades from earlier versions of Visual Log to 2.0.1 Final Release 1 by automatically generating Tags from existing Content. You can Download Tag Generator now.
