There are currently 3 Known Issue(s) (1 Unresolved) with the current version of VLog 2 but please look at VLog 2 Help if you have encountered any other problems.

Current Version Issues

MySQL Installation Bug

Applies To: Visual Log 2.1.0 Beta 1

Issue Description

When attempting to install with MySQL as the backend database the Table Creation step will report 4 errors, if you proceed with installation later steps will fail and the software as a whole will not function correctly.

Issue Resolution

Download Visual Log again, the package has been updated to include the correct installer plus Visual Log 210b1 Patch 1

Current Provider does not support Transactions Error

Applies To: Visual Log 2.1.0 Beta 1

Issue Description

Under certain database and server configurations the ADO Connection object will report errors whenever it tries to use Database Transactions (which we do frequently to help protect your data). So far this has been observed using MySQL 4.1 with IIS 6.0, please inform us of other configurations that exhibit this behavior.

This bug leads to frequent error messages informing you that actions could not be carried out when in fact in most cases they will have happened anyway.

Issue Resolution

This can be resolved by applying Visual Log 210b1 Patch 1

CMS Editor Menu Quirks

Applies To: Visual Log 2.1.0 Beta 1

Issue Description

While using the CMS Editor you may experience one/more of the following quirks with the CMS Menus, some of these are browser specific issues:
  • Deep heirarchies cause the Menus sidebar to overlap with the Editor table
  • Menus do not appear when an option is clicked ie. nothing pops up when you click on a piece of Contents Title. This occurs in IE7 and possibly IE6, IE8 works fine
  • Menus cannot be dragged and dropeed. This occurs in IE8

Issue Resolution

Currently we have no solutions to these problems and as the current version is a Beta are not planning to fix them in the near future. We recommend that you use browsers other than IE for your general browsing and for administering your site. This issue does not affect the experience of your site by visitors since all visitor facing JavaScript has been tested in IE, Firefox, Safari and Chrome and works correctly.

Previous Version Issues

The following Issues apply to previous versions only and can be solved by upgrading to the newer version as detailed on the VLog 2 Page.

CMS Editor Menus don't display when MySQL is the database

Applies To: Visual Log 2.0.1 Beta 1, Beta 2 and Final Release 1

Issue Description

It has been found that when using MySQL as the database the CMS Editor may fail to display any Menus.

Issue Resolution

May be resolved by installing Visual Log 201f1 Patch 1 or get the 2.1.0 Beta 1 Upgrade

Tag Manager for Blogs will show wrong Tags when New Entry is first created

Applies To: Visual Log 2.0.1 Final Release 1

Issue Description

When you create a New Blog Entry for the first time the Tag Manager will show Tags for whatever the first entry in your entire Blog is regardless of the actual entry just created. Correct behaviour is that the Tag Manager should show no Tags for a newly created entry as there won't be any.

Issue Resolution

Refreshing the Page by clicking the Update Blog Entry button will then cause the Tag Manager to behave correctly, this issue is fixed by applying the 2.1.0 Beta 1 Upgrade

Tag Manager doesn't show Current Tags when using MySQL as Database

Applies To: Visual Log 2.0.1 Final Release 1

Issue Description

When you use the Tag Manager and your chosen database format is MySQL the Tag Manager will always display an empty list for Current Tags. You can add Tags as normal but these will not show in the Tag Manager list, viewing the actual Content/Blog Entry will display the Tags correctly below the content in question.

Issue Resolution

Install Visual Log 201f1 Patch 1 to resolve this issue or get the 2.1.0 Beta 1 Upgrade

Missing Language Variables Errors shown on reaching Setup Step 4

Applies To: Visual Log 2.0.0 Final Release 1

Issue Description

When attempting to install Visual Log you see multiple error messages stating Language Variables are missing upon reaching Step 4 of the Installation.

Issue Resolution

Ensure you have configured your file system settings correctly in vlog.asp, see How To: Install VLog for details on doing this. If these settings are not configured Visual Log cannot read the data files and installation will not be possible. After configuring the settings you should restart the installation using a fresh database.

Comment Display and Deletion

Applies To: Visual Log 2.0.0 Final Release 1

Issue Description

Visual Log cannot display execessive numbers of Comments because the Script Times out, Delete Comments may be completely unusable due to excessive comment numbers. Excessive Comments may result from spam posting by robots to your Blog Comments.

Issue Resolution

Download Visual Log 200f1 Patch 1 or Upgrade to the Latest Version

License Validation

Applies To: Visual Log 2.0.0 Final Release 1

Issue Description

There is an issue with License Validation in this release of Visual Log. Licenses can be Validated successfully but afterwards may fail to validate again until the server restarts. There is either no user experience of this or the License message at the bottom of the page may be missing entirely.

Issue Resolution

There is no resolution needed for the current release since it does not cause software to fail in any way that affects normal operation. You should upgrade to the Latest Version to eliminate this issue.
